When making up Valentine's Day bags for my daughter's friends, I wanted to include something other than decorated sugar cookies. I searched the web and found this Cupid Crunch, a sweet/salty snack that was different and pretty cute. There were several versions that I found, but I liked the one I found on Plain Chicken. I strongly suggest clicking over onto her blog as her Cupid Crunch looks waaaay better than mine. I think I either used too much popcorn or not enough candy melts for the coating. Plus, she uses almond bark. I didn't have any on hand, so I used white candy melts. She also uses Valentine candy corn and peanuts. I must be looking in the wrong places because I totally didn't find any pink candy corn this year and I was making for a few kids that had some food aversions/allergies, so I didn't want to add nuts.
All in all, I think it came out pretty well and was a great addition to my Valentine treat bags.
Hope y'all have a Happy Valentine's Day!!
Cupid Crunch
Recipe adapted from Plain Chicken
2 bags of microwave popcorn, popped (around 16-20 cups of popped popcorn)
1 (12 oz.) bag of M&Ms in the Valentine colors
1 cup pretzel sticks (the small ones, not the rods)
1 bag of white candy melts
Valentine themed sprinkles
Pop the popcorn and pour it into a very big mixing bowl. Next, add the the M&Ms and pretzels.
In another microwave safe bowl, or a double boiler (your choice here), melt the candy melts according to the directions on the package. Once melted, pour over the popcorn mixture and stir until everything is completely coated.
Spread the mixture out onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment or waxed paper. Sprinkle the Valentine's sprinkles over the popcorn and let sit until completely dry. Break up any clumps of popcorn mixture if needed.
So cute! What a great idea and you know I love some sweet/salty snack combos!
